Preparing for Version 3 and Extended Maintenance
Why we took the bot offline for extended maintenance instead of applying daily hotfixes.
Quick patches are no longer cutting it. Our user count has grown so much that keeping the bot stable with daily hotfixes has become impossible. We fix one thing and something else breaks half an hour later, and as I said earlier this year, largely due to some really stupid coding mistakes we made.
Hosting the bot on whatever spare setups we could find was our biggest mistake since we had almost no experience running home servers. We switched our hosting, but moving to better servers could not fix a struggling codebase that needed a total rebuild.
Because of this, we made the call to take the bot offline for an extended period. Constantly putting small band aids on deeper bugs was only delaying the inevitable. We are using this downtime to rebuild our core setup properly from the ground up.
Thank you to everyone in chat who kept reporting crashes and remained patient with us while we work through these restarts and prepare Version 3.
