Someone phished one of our Hypixor mods
What went down when a staff account was compromised and started spamming links.
If you were online around midnight in the Hypixor Discord, you probably saw some strange spam pinging random channels. One of our new community moderators fell for a fake game beta link sent through direct messages, which let an attacker take over their account.
The person behind it immediately started posting scam download links in our general chat and muted or banned anyone who tried to speak up. Luckily, a few of us were still awake and hanging out in a voice call. Mikey pulled all administrator and mod permissions from the compromised profile in under three minutes, wiped the messages, and banned the account until our mod could recover it.
The person was able to ban around forty members before we caught them, but we have unbanned everyone. We also locked down staff roles so only founders, lead devs, and senior devs have permission to manage channels or ping everyone. Honestly, I do not know why we did not set it up like that earlier.
We literally posted about these exact kinds of scams three days earlier in our mod chat and even pinged every staff member. Please never click random links sent to you on Discord, even when they come from staff or friends you trust.
